Vimeo’s Video Editor Is Getting a User
Focused Redesign for Over 220 Million
Monthly Users

We redesigned Vimeo’s editor to make video creation faster and easier. Completed videos per day increased from 592 to 1580.

We focused on reducing time spent editing and publishing. This helped more users complete videos and stay engaged.

The Problem

Vimeo Create serves 220 million users every month, but the video editor is outdated and difficult to use. Users want to create professional videos quickly, yet the current editing experience makes even basic tasks feel complex and unclear.

This friction causes users to drop off before completing their videos. Confusing editing flows and lack of clarity during creation reduce confidence and prevent users from reaching the publish stage, especially for professional and enterprise users.

DESIGN THINKING
WORKSHOP

The design thinking workshop was conducted to align product, design, and research around real user needs. Using insights from data, support tickets, and prior research, we worked together to map problems, validate assumptions, and explore potential directions before moving into solution design.

Hands on exercises helped translate abstract insights into concrete challenges and opportunities. By grounding discussions in real user pain points and observed behavior, the workshop ensured that design decisions were based on evidence rather than assumptions, setting a clear foundation for focused and user driven solutions.

Designing a
Simpler Video
Editing Experience

We designed the Vimeo video editor in just 2.5 sprints with a clear focus on streamlining the editing process. The goal was to reduce complexity and create an intuitive experience that helps users move quickly from idea to finished video, without relying on complicated tools or workflows.

By prioritizing simplicity and ease of use, we shaped an interface that feels accessible from the first interaction. The editor is designed to support creativity while staying consistent and scalable, empowering more users to confidently create and share high quality videos.

DESIGN SYSTEMS THE KEY TO CONSISTENT AND SCALABLE CREATIVITY

At Vimeo, we believe a design system is essential for keeping everything consistent and easy to use. It helps us make sure that every part of our platform feels smooth and intuitive, so users can have a hassle-free experience.

By sticking to a design system, we can quickly make updates and improvements based on what users need. This approach lets us focus on creating solutions that really work, making our product better for everyone who uses it.

Elevating
The Key to Consistent
and Scalable Creativity

The VP of Product and I formed a team of designers, a product manager, and front-end developers to redesign Vimeo’s video editor. Our goal was to create an intuitive, user-friendly UX strategy to enhance the video creation experience.

We combined insights from usability testing, user feedback, A/B testing, and BI tools to create a fresh design concept.
This collaborative, data-driven approach resulted in a seamless and intuitive video editing experience.

MEASURING SUCCESS

Before release, we validated the new editor through user testing sessions and interviews with Vimeo customers. We focused on task completion, clarity of core editing flows, and whether users could progress independently without confusion.

After release, we measured success using Amplitude and internal BI tools. Facelift feature usage increased by 5.2%. The number of completed videos per day increased from 592 to 1580.
